I’m Maties Mercuri, a sound creative specializing in sound design, music composition, and the creation of sonic experiences for visual media, video games, performances, and installations. My approach always begins with listening, whether I’m composing, field recording, or exploring new ways of shaping sound, I work with focus and curiosity. I’m fascinated by soundscapes, both natural and everyday, and I rarely leave home without my small Sony recorder, always ready to capture anything that catches my ear.
My academic background includes a degree in Film with a specialization in sound recording and post-production from ESCAC (University of Barcelona Film School), where I first discovered my passion for sound beyond music. I also earned a diploma in Audio Integration for Video Games and Immersive Media from ITES school, and a Master’s in Experimental Sound Practice from University College Cork, Ireland. The last one, laid the foundation for my creative process and radically transformed the way I listen to and understand sound, thanks to experimental and innovative methodologies.
My creative process is closely tied to experimentation and the use of technology. I’m particularly interested in how sound can inhabit space and shift perception through immersive formats or AI-driven processes. I also explore less conventional environments such as Max/MSP and other computational sound tools. For me, sound is not just a layer, it’s a central creative force, one that invites discovery, play, and learning.
Currently based in Dublin, Ireland, I’m always looking for new projects, studios, and collaborators.
I believe in listening as method, experimentation as a creative engine, and sound as a way of relating to the world.
